What is APRScaching?

APRScaching is a treasure hunt for radio amateurs. Someone hides a cache: a spot on the map tied to amateur radio, such as a summit, a park, a castle or a bench with a view. You go there and log the find. Unlike ordinary geocaching, a find can be confirmed by radio: if a receiving station heard your APRS beacon near the cache, the find counts as radio-verified.

You need an amateur-radio callsign to take part. You do not need to install anything or know anything about servers. A term you don't know is explained in a line or two in the Glossary.

What you can do

  • Hunt. Browse the map, pick a cache nearby and go there. The app can tell you when you are close.
  • Log. Record the find in the app, from your radio, or offline when there is no signal.
  • Hide. Place caches of your own: a single spot, a trail of stages, or a cache that travels with a beaconing station.
  • Compare. Badges, ranks and ratings sit on the same map, next to heritage places such as summits and parks from award programmes.

Around the game sits the Shack: packet-radio tools in your browser for when you want to operate.
